Sex During Menstruation

Sex During Menstruation

Posted by Elena Galetskaya on

On average, menstruation occurs for about a week every month. In other words, a quarter of an adult woman's life is spent on her period. It makes you wonder, does all this time have to be endured without any simple pleasures?

According to gynecologists, menstruation should not be a reason to avoid sex because it is not risky and can actually have benefits. It can help relieve pain and make the process easier. If you are concerned that your partner will be repulsed, know that most of them do not mind at all. They are more likely to notice any discomfort or hesitation from their partner instead.

Overall, if you are not experiencing any pain or discomfort, having sex during your period can be quite enjoyable. It may even help to shorten the length of your period and alleviate any unpleasant sensations.

There are gynecologists who believe that having sex during menstruation can potentially cause endometriosis, but not all gynecologists agree on this. The connection between menstruation and endometriosis has not been proven. Additionally, the idea that there is a higher risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections during your period is also a point of contention. If you have sex with a regular partner, your preferred method of contraception should be effective as usual.

Don't be fooled - you can still get pregnant while menstruating. If you're relying on a condom for protection, don't let your period be an excuse to not use one. Hormonal birth control is still effective during this time as well.

On a side note, there are also specialized tampons for intercourse during menstruation. They have an anatomical shape and no strings attached, ensuring that neither partner feels any difference in sensation.

Alternatively, you could lay down a towel without any complicated methods or have sex in the shower to minimize mess.
